Tofu steak! It’s what’s for dinner! When I started making the shift to include more plant-based meals into my diet, tofu was one of the ingredients I started with. Why? Because I typically didn’t eat it growing up. Tofu made an occasional appearance in a delicious Filipino dessert called Taho in its silky form, or a few vegetable curry dishes. Then I became obsessed with Sundubu (or Soondubu) Jjigae, a Korean tofu stew. It was the only dish I would order at Korean restaurants!
But, I was always curious about tofu steaks and tofu cubes since I had never prepared them myself. So, I set out to learn the ropes! This is a quick and easy tofu steak recipe that I still turn to again and again.

How to Make the Best Crispy Spicy Tofu Steak:
Making crispy tofu steak involves a little bit of prep and freezing overnight. The tofu will take on a more spongy texture and will become more porous. Defrosting it will help soften it enough so that the water can be squeezed out by hand.
Cut a few tofu blocks at a time and freeze them in ziplock bags. This way, you’ll have it ready right when you need it.
How to Remove Water from Tofu Blocks:
Open: and remove the tofu block from its package.
Cut: tofu block into 5-6 pieces.
Freeze: overnight or at least 6-8 hours.
Reheat: in the microwave for 60 seconds. Turn over and rearrange tofu steaks.
Repeat: reheat 3-4 more times, until tofu is defrosted. Let cool to touch.
Squeeze: the cooled tofu steaks gently to remove excess water.
Tofu Steak Cooking Instructions:
